New Day, New Year, and New Beginnings - 31 Days of Fresh StartsSample
New Every Morning...
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
Honestly, don’t these verses get you every time you read them? Me too. There is something about knowing that every morning when I wake up, our Heavenly Father’s love, mercy, and compassion are already working on my behalf. They are already in action. Even when—especially when—I have made a mess of things, done something dumb, or acted in a way that Jesus would never be caught doing. Are you getting my point?
I mean, He just never fails to love us. Even when we fail Him.
The platform for freedom from old habits and hang-ups, or when we are trying to head in a new direction of life, ministry, or vocation, is the power of His mercy and grace. Why? Because they drown the voice of guilt from our enemy and ourselves, which would keep us chained to our old ways.
Yes, grace isn’t mentioned in this particular passage, but the Bible is filled with it. And grace, coupled with mercy, are the twin-sisters of His Word.
Grace: Getting something we don’t deserve
Mercy: Not getting what we do deserve.
And the old Hebrew word used here for compassion? Well, that’s grace and mercy on steroids. Racham literally means womb in its noun form, so compassion, as noted in our opening verse, means to love from the womb. The ardent, selfless affection, concern, and care a mother has for her child.
To start anything new, we must ruthlessly stand upon Jesus’ grace, mercy, and compassion. Because when we falter—and we will—these attributes of His will awaken us every morning, reminding us that Jesus has already completely forgiven us, giving us strength to move forward in a new way.
About this Plan
Throughout Scripture, we discover the Unchanging One loves to change things up. Maybe Jesus is gently nudging us that it's time for us to have a new beginning, a fresh start, or that He wants to open a door of possibility. Let's open His Word and invite the adventure to begin!
