DAY 13 OF 21

Surrendering Fear
Sophia Torres

In this section, Jesus shows us a great example of what it looks like to surrender, trust, and be obedient when God calls you to do something. In this moment, Jesus is facing the most challenging situation: His death on the cross.

Jesus knew that His next steps were not going to be easy, and He was filled with anxiety, stress, and fear. He surrendered by confessing His feelings to His Father. He said, “Look, I'm scared; I know you asked me to do this, but if there's another way we can achieve your vision without me having to die, can we explore that option? If there is no alternative, I understand and will do it because you asked me to, and I love you. I trust you completely.”

When Jesus was facing death and was filled with the fear of the pain that was to come, He did not run. He went off to pray. Jesus went all in by becoming vulnerable with God the Father, admitting that He was scared, and even confessing that He did not want to go to the cross if He did not have to but submitted to the Father’s will instead of His own.

In my life, I am not facing imminent death, but I am confronted with some tough choices that make the process incredibly uncomfortable. Honestly, there have been times when I've found myself on the floor, crying out to God and questioning whether I’m going to make it through.

However, I would be lying if I said there aren’t days when I hold on to all the fear, pain, and hurt. I have found that sometimes I allow everything happening in my life at that moment to feel much bigger than my God. When I do this, I create a significant gap between myself and God.

Over time, if we don’t communicate with God, it can feel like He is not with us. In reality, our shifted focus causes us to ignore His presence. Jesus understood that the Father’s love is pure, and we can trust Him completely with our feelings, confessions, and fears. What steps can you take today to move closer to surrendering and deepening your relationship with Jesus?
