A Year in Luke/ActsSample

The context we noted yesterday in Jerusalem is not that different from what we see in the world today. There are those who wish to remain oblivious to the issues in the world and just get on with their lives, and those who want revolutionary action to overturn society and start again. The message of Jesus speaks to both of these groups:

• As we go about life we believe that following “The Way” is changing and transforming the world in ways we can’t even imagine. As we pray for the kingdom of God to come on earth as in heaven, in the next breath we are to pray for the daily bread to do the job. As the Message puts Romans 12:1-2: “Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”
• Being changed from the inside out in a community of others being changed is the revolutionary movement that Jesus started. This is the humble community which is going to shock the world and contain such a power that the Romans themselves are going to eventually make it the empire’s official religion.

Do we really believe that the Way of Jesus might be what many around us are longing for at the deepest level?
