A Year in Luke/Acts

DAY 121 OF 364

The parable of the widow and the unjust judge is designed to highlight two things:

  1. It reminds us that God is not like the unjust judge, but is the most just Judge that there is.
  2. Our role in prayer is sometimes just consistency and repetition.

We can trust that the Lord is in control and will bring about justice when we pray. Sometimes we do not see the answer we would like or expect in prayer, but we can trust that we are not serving an unjust judge, but the God whose throne is founded upon justice and righteousness (Psalm 89:14).

Jesus ends with this question: will the Son of Man find faith on the earth? This is an interesting question when we think about what has just been shared. It would seem here as if faith, confidence in things unseen, is connected to consistency and persistence. Are we willing to stay consistent, even when we don’t feel like it or it seems as if nothing is happening?
