Matt 1:1-4:11 Preparation for J’s public ministry
Ch 1. Why do you think Matthew begins with a genealogy? What do you notice about who is mentioned and what is focussed on?
As you read Ch 1-2 look for references to fulfilment of the prophets
What point is being made by all the references to prophetic fulfilment?
Ch 3-4 What OT passages and events might be being alluded to in these chapters?
Look particularly for references to Jesus bringing a true end to exile.
4:17 - key turning point (c.f. 16:21 ‘From that time’). What was Jesus’ message?
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.
