Week 28. Day 1. Psalms 42-48.

Psalms 42-44 introduce book 2 of the Psalter

Book 2 opens with two laments (Psalm 42&43 were originally one psalm and should be read together as one)

• Ps 42&43 – The lament of an individual feeling far from God
• Psalm 44 – A corporate lament, where the people feel far from God and rejected by him

Psalm 45 is a song for the king on his wedding day, and points forward to the glorious relationship between Christ and his church.

v2-9 The king. What sort of picture is painted here? How does this point us forward to Christ

v10-15. The bride. What sort of picture is painted here? What does this teach us about the church?

v16-17. The king again. What does this add to the picture?

Ps 46-48 Note the focus on Jerusalem as the place where God dwells – giving hope after the lament of Ps 44.
