Contentment vs Greed: How to Find Satisfaction in Our SaviorSample
Day 2: Contentment in Christ
As we’ve just read, the Apostle Paul reveals that true contentment is not based on external circumstances but on a deep relationship with Christ. Whether Paul had a lot or little, his satisfaction came from his faith in Christ, not from his financial or material situation.
Contentment is a learned state of mind, cultivated through reliance on Christ. Life is not linear, but we’re always in motion. We’ll experience ups, downs, even loops. . .and that’s on a regular Tuesday! We must do our best to follow the lead of the Father and prioritize consistency. God’s love for us does not waver or fade in and out based on our actions or external circumstances, neither should our trust in Him.
We as Christians believe that God is enough, even when we feel we lack something. Christ is the source of our strength, whether we are experiencing abundance or scarcity.
When I find myself feeling too focused on what I don’t have and not focused on what I do have, I take time to practice gratitude for everything in my life that God has blessed me with.
Even waking up is a gift. Being able to read the Word is a gift. Being able to smell, taste, see and hear. All gifts. Start there, and before you know it, you’ll be feeling overcome with joy and thanks.
Jesus, help me to learn the secret of true contentment, just as Paul did. No matter my circumstances, teach me to rely on You for my peace and joy. Let my satisfaction be found in my relationship with You, rather than in the things of this world. Amen.
Action: I challenge you to take 3-5 minutes every morning and night to write 3 things you’re grateful for.
I hope you've enjoyed Day 2! I'll see you back here tomorrow for the third and final day of the plan!
