Pray to the God of Love and TruthSample
Day 3: Pray for the Church
Read It: 1 Chronicles 29:14-16
14 “But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You. 15 For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. 16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours.
Meditate On It:
1. Examine King David’s prayer. What was his perspective on the people of God? What did he compare them to?
2. Read 1 Chronicles 28:20-21. How were the people to serve God given their roles?
20 Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished. 21 Now behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of any skill will be with you in all the work for all kinds of service. The officials also and all the people will be entirely at your command.”
3. What is our role in building up the house of God? What specific actions can we take to lift up the people of God?
Apply It:
God chooses His servants to minister to His people and accomplish His work. With the same mindset as the Israelites, Christ-followers view our time on earth as limited and should be optimized for serving God since we are all sojourners, tenants, and pilgrims—setting our ultimate hope on the Lord. As long as we are aligned with His will, He will empower us for the work of ministry.
1. In what way is God calling me to serve Him in this season of my life? How can I depend on Him as I step out to serve?
2. How can I contribute to the work of the Lord in the church, using my time, talent, treasure, and truth (influence)? Please set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Timebound (SMART) commitments.
Example: “I will prepare food and pray for my Dgroup/family this week.”
Pray About It:
- Pray to be more like Jesus, denying ourselves and serving others sacrificially without expecting anything in return.
- Lift our church, Christ’s Commission Fellowship, in prayer that it may continue magnifying the Lord by making disciples who will make disciples of all nations.
- Pray for a culture of honoring God’s Word and authorities in the church—to submit to God above all and abide by the wisdom of our elders, pastors, and servant-leaders.
- Intercede for our leaders that the Lord may sustain His servants and grant them wisdom on how to navigate through the rest of the year such that God is glorified in their lives and our church:
- Our Senior Pastor and his family
- Elders, Pastors, servant-leaders, and each one’s families.
- Ministry heads, staff, workers, volunteers, partner missionaries.
- Every discipler and their disciples to grow in Christlikeness as they fulfill the Great Commission.
- National and International church planting initiatives to bear fruit for God's glory.
About this Plan
In 1 Chronicles 29, David describes the greatness and power of God, His grace, and undeserved favor for His people. Together, let's go through David's prayer and experience God's breakthroughs, witness His miracles, and receive His answers to your prayers as we meditate on God, His Word, and His wonderful works through prayer and fasting.
