Where Do We Come From?

DAY 13 OF 13

Where Do We Come From… and Where Are We Going?

“Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.” (1 Corinthians 15:49)

The first chapters of the Bible showed us where we come from. We are descended from Adam and Eve. They were beautifully made by God, but were tempted by Satan to sin. All of us have inherited their sinful nature, with horrible consequences.

Yet this is not the whole story. We also read about “the offspring of the woman” fighting Satan. In 1 Corinthians 15, he is called “the second Adam” or “the second Man.” His name is Jesus Christ. He has overcome Satan and death. This is good news. “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:22)

Every human being bears the image of Adam. We are all people like him, with the positives and negatives that come with it. We are all sinful. Therefore, we all must die. But through faith in Jesus, we can also become His children. Then we also bear His image. Then we are made alive, in and through Him. Then the sinful and mortal in us is overcome, and we receive eternal, imperishable life with God, our creator. That sounds like a fairy tale. Yet it really is true. In the end, it is not your origin that determines you, but your new identity in Christ. What does this mean to you?

Have you already become a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ?

Day 12

About this Plan

Where Do We Come From?

A lot of people ask themselves, “Where do I come from?” This question is important for one’s personal identity. If we trace back far enough, all humans share the same ancestors, Adam and Eve. The Bible tells us about them. So, let’s read where we all come from!
