Horizon Church December Bible Reading Plan - Christmas Advent: Jesus, ComeSample
The Everlasting One Will Come Again
As we stand at the close of the year, our hearts are filled with both reflection and anticipation. The Advent season has reminded us of the first coming of Jesus, and now, as we approach the final day of this year, we are invited to look ahead to the second Advent—His promised return.
In John 14:2-3, Jesus reassures His disciples with these words: “In My Father’s house are many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me.” These words, spoken by Jesus, remind us that our waiting is not in vain. Just as He came once to bring salvation, He will return to gather His people to Himself. The second Advent is a promise, not a distant hope, but a certain and glorious future.
In Acts 1:3-11, as Jesus ascended into heaven, His disciples gazed at the sky, wondering when He would return. The angels' words in verse 11 were clear: “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into Heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.” The return of Jesus is not a myth or a vague hope—it is a reality, and it is as certain as His first coming.
And as the last words of Scripture declare in Revelation 22:20, “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” These words stir our hearts to respond in eager expectation, knowing that His return will be the ultimate fulfilment of all our hopes and the restoration of all things.
As we reflect on the past year, we remember that our lives are caught up in the tension of waiting—the anticipation of Christ’s return. Our waiting, though sometimes difficult, is not without purpose. It is a holy preparation for the day when Jesus will make all things new.
So, as this year ends, let our hearts be filled with both gratitude for His first coming and longing for His return. "Come, Lord Jesus." Amen.
