Strength for Recovery

Whether your medical condition is simple or complex and life-altering, there will be a recovery process after a hospital stay. You’ll need some time to rest and follow the doctor’s recommendations to get back to full health. Maybe you’ll need physical therapy or medications for a season. Maybe you’ll have follow-up visits and additional procedures.

In any case, you’ll need strength from God to be patient and work at your recovery with your mind, body, and soul. And as you ask Him, your heavenly Father stands ready to provide you with everything you need to persevere through each moment.

Focusing on God’s promises in Scripture is a helpful way to keep your spirits up as you walk this road, however long it may be. Today’s Bible passages have encouraging focal points to dwell on, a reminder of some of the abundant resources you have in God. Think about each of the words that have been bolded below for a few moments—what do they mean for your recovery? Do one or two stand out as what you need the most right now?

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer … in whom I take refuge, my shield … Psalm 18:2 NIV

A Place to Start in Prayer

God, I have a distance left to go in my recovery journey from this health challenge. I need Your strength in my weakness. Praise You that You’re the one supporting me and holding me up. Please make me courageous, patient, and steadfast throughout this process. Pour out Your mercy on me and fill me with Your peace and love. Thank You that I can rely on You—and that You will always be my refuge. In Jesus’ name, amen.
