The Mended Rib: A 27-Day Devotional for Men Battling Lust and InfidelitySample
Serving Your Wife
God calls husbands to love their wives sacrificially, just as Christ loved the church. This means putting her needs above your own, even when it’s inconvenient or difficult. Sacrificial love isn’t about seeking what you can get, but about giving selflessly. When you focus on serving your wife rather than being served, your marriage thrives. It can be as simple as listening to her, helping with daily tasks, or supporting her spiritual growth. Sacrificial love becomes the antidote to selfishness and lust. By serving your wife with genuine love, you strengthen your bond and deepen intimacy.
One of the things that brings me the most joy is making an intentional effort every day to serve my wife. Some days, this looks like taking over household tasks she normally handles, giving her a shoulder or back massage after a long day, or simply asking how I can help—whether the task is big or small—and then following through. I also serve her by stepping into my role as the spiritual leader of our family, guiding us in faith and ensuring we are growing together spiritually.
Even in our physical relationship, where I once focused on my own satisfaction, I’ve learned to focus more on non-sexual intimacy throughout the day—without expecting anything in return. I make an effort to connect with her in meaningful ways that don’t revolve around my desires. This shift has transformed our relationship. I’m not perfect at it, but my intentionality has made a profound difference in how we connect and love each other.
Challenge
Today, find one specific way to serve your wife without expecting anything in return. This could be helping with household chores, offering a listening ear, or planning a special time together.
Prayer
Lord, help me to love my wife as You loved the church. Show me ways to serve her sacrificially and strengthen our bond as I put her needs above my own. Amen.
