Here are some more keys to reducing stress.
Focus on the Present Moment: Psalm 32:11 says, Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Don’t put off being happy until you get a new house or a promotion or until everything in life is perfect. Matthew 6:34 says, Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Determine to focus on one thing you can do today, and trust God to help you every step of the way.
Develop A Habit Of Thankfulness: It’s easy to focus on troubles, but you’ll be a lot less stressed if you think about what you have to be thankful for. Hebrews 12:28 says, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. Thankfulness is a choice, and it’s the path to peace.
Don’t Go It Alone: 1 Peter 5:8 says, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. The devil wants to divide you off from those who can help you in your walk with God. Find community, and stay put there. There is power in numbers–don’t isolate yourself.
Stay Connected: Mark 1:35 says, “In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.” It’s important to recharge your spiritual battery in times of daily solitude with the Lord. He is the God of all peace and comfort–read His Word daily.
Relax! After a strenuous time of ministry, Jesus encouraged his disciples, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31). Learn to live a life of balance, with rest times in between effort. Life is a marathon, not a dash, and the victory goes to those who pace themselves. Take time to relax, play, and enjoy life. You’ll like yourself better, and so will others!
Visit these verses again and again this holiday season (and all year long!) to replace stressful thinking with God’s peace. He has equipped you with everything you need to live a peaceful life, no matter what’s going on all around you!
