A Lesson for Life
In this passage, among many things, ingratitude is mentioned as a degeneration of man's character that will contribute to the dangers of the last times.
I was once meditating on this and I wondered: How can ingratitude be something so serious? Quickly, the Lord brought to my mind a person who was showing many signs ofnarcissistic personality disorder.
According to experts in this field, some of the signs of people who suffer from it are a lack of empathy, believing that they deserve all the best and maintaining a cold and distant attitude with others. All of these things are destructive, they ruin relationships, hurt self-esteem, destabilize homes, and turn people away from God's plan for their lives. Ingratitude can be the beginning of many evils like this.
Meditate: How have you reacted to the ingratitude of others towards you?
We can read a tremendous life lesson in Luke 17:11-19 where Jesus heals 10 lepers. People who were marginalized by society and destined to die abandoned, received the miracle of healing. However, only 1 in 10 returned to thank Jesus.
How sad!
I continue to be amazed by the love of Christ— that despite the ingratitude he experienced—he continued to heal and save without being diverted from his purpose. This attitude of Jesus should teach us that the ingratitude of others should not harm our hearts or mission on earth.
Remember: Kingdom principles that are worth following. Love, forgive and give thanks.
Prayer: Lord, help us to maintain a grateful heart that demonstrates humility and recognition of your lordship in our lives. We do not want to be like the 9 lepers who, being healed by you, did not have the initiative to thank you. We love you, Lord, and acknowledge our total dependence on you. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
