The Spiritual Journey of MankindSample
Day Two
The Refugee Camp
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
1 John 2:15-17 (ESV)
A big disconnect in the everyday, ordinary person is not realizing the hidden, and yet dynamic influence the spiritual world has on our life. It is out of sight, rarely considered, and is designed by the evil man to steer us away from God. From the day we are born, a competing effort to redirect us from our deepest need to have a restored relationship with our Creator begins. We are given counterfeits or false promises to dull our need and to redirect this need toward things that will not last, and false religions to give us a semblance of hope, but incomplete hope at best. A value system that has been fostered toward the pursuit of these things seduce us into believing that all we want or need is found in the world’s system, such as wealth, fame, success, material things, and relationships, especially those outside God’s design. But there will be consequences to face if we do not accept God’s provision to provide us salvation from it. It is only a matter of time for the world and its system will eventually let us down.
In the Refugee Camp we see represented the opposition and the battle for souls that is waged. Jesus said this about it:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 (ESV)
Who is the thief? The answer is simply anything or anyone who wants to take from us that which God wants to give us. God gives us freedom, hope, an eternal future with Him, and a new identity. The Evil Man wants to prevent this. Let’s start first with freedom. What freedom?
Freedom
God wants us to receive our freedom. If this is true, we must ask what we are enslaved to as humans and which we need to be freed from. First, we are enslaved to a future of eternal separation from God, because of the consequences of sin. We are born into this dismal beginning and conclusion of our life. We live in a sinful world, and we all are tainted and influenced by sin. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We cannot help ourselves overcome this. We are born in it and cannot avoid it. Even the best of mankind cannot avoid it. We have only one hope. We must have a Savior who will set us free from this future. The good news is that He has come to us to set us free.
“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:22-23 (ESV)
In the Refugee Camp referenced in my book, we see a spiritual seduction by evil using false hopes and promises from the lies of Satan to steal, kill and destroy. We also see the inner spiritual condition of mankind as a result, which is emaciated, starving and will eventually die and be cast into hell. They do not realize this, for they are temporarily propped up with counterfeits that temporarily satisfy them. Of significance is the outward life of the human who may appear successful, all together, and on top of the world, verses a poor vagabond without anything but a life of struggle. Even so, looking into the souls of each person who is without Christ, is a dying and empty soul who will one day realize that what they followed was a lie. The outcome is inevitable for each. They are enslaved to this future without the freedom God wants to give them. This is the spiritual condition of mankind.
