 <div class="label">25</div><div class="s1">The Musicians</div><div class="p"> 1David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service:</div><div class="b"></div><div class="li1"> 2From the sons of Asaph:</div><div class="li2">Zakkur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asarelah. The sons of Asaph were under the supervision of Asaph, who prophesied under the king&#8217;s supervision.</div><div class="li1"> 3As for Jeduthun, from his sons:</div><div class="li2">Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei,#25:3 One Hebrew manuscript and some Septuagint manuscripts (see also verse 17); most Hebrew manuscripts do not have Shimei. Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six in all, under the supervision of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied, using the harp in thanking and praising the Lord.</div><div class="li1"> 4As for Heman, from his sons:</div><div class="li2">Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael and Jerimoth; Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamti-Ezer; Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir and Mahazioth. 5(All these were sons of Heman the king&#8217;s seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.)</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 6All these men were under the supervision of their father for the music of the temple of the Lord, with cymbals, lyres and harps, for the ministry at the house of God.</div><div class="p">Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the supervision of the king. 7Along with their relatives&#8212;all of them trained and skilled in music for the Lord&#8212;they numbered 288. 8Young and old alike, teacher as well as student, cast lots for their duties.</div><div class="b"></div><table class="table">

Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. 34Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy,#11:34 The Greek for healthy here implies generous. your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy,#11:34 The Greek for unhealthy here implies stingy. your body also is full of darkness. 35See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. 36Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">Woes on the Pharisees and the Experts in the Law</div><div class="p"> 37When Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him; so he went in and reclined at the table. 38But the Pharisee was surprised when he noticed that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.</div><div class="p"> 39Then the Lord said to him, &#8220;Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. 40You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? 41But now as for what is inside you&#8212;be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you.</div><div class="p"> 42 &#8220;Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.</div><div class="p"> 43 &#8220;Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the most important seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the marketplaces.</div><div class="p"> 44 &#8220;Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 45One of the experts in the law answered him, &#8220;Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us also.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 46Jesus replied, &#8220;And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.</div><div class="p"> 47 &#8220;Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them. 48So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. 49Because of this, God in his wisdom said, &#8216;I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.&#8217; 50Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, 51from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith 14and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth. 15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.</div>
