Dually Devoted – a Devotional for Bivocational Pastors and Leaders.Sample
Often, Bivocational pastors struggle with the idea of how viable and valuable their role is in serving the church. Because they are not always able to make a living solely from their church work, they may question their value. The truth is, without Bivocational pastors, many small rural churches would be without leadership or would have to close.
Bivocational pastors play a crucial role in sustaining spiritual communities across the country. Their motivation is often necessity, not greed. While they are worthy of “double honor,” they may not always receive what they need or deserve.
However, their value is not determined by a paycheck but by their impact and heart to serve. They serve their families by working outside the church to provide necessities and health insurance. They serve their communities by being a Christ-like presence to those who may never step through the doors of a church. They serve their churches through their sacrifice and willingness to forgo full financial support.
While Bivocational pastors may struggle with their sense of value and worth, God’s perspective is what truly matters. Support, respect, and merit are divine expectations. They are not “second-class pastors” as some might believe. God treasures all pastors, including Bivocational ones.
