The Path of Perseverance

DAY 23 OF 26

Most Scholars believe that only 1-2 years passed between Peter's first and second letter. This second letter has a fragrance of Peter's awareness that his time on this side of the grave is soon to end. His encouragement is the same as in 1 Peter that during trial and persecution, there is hope found in Jesus. However, there is a new warning that is gripping in this second letter that wasn’t present in the first. ‘Beware of false teachers!'

The false teachers were those who had infiltrated the church and had begun spreading a doctrine that denied the sovereignty of Christ. In simple terms… they were teaching that sin is okay and you can do whatever you’d like in your life. Essentially, “your life is your own!"

This sounds similar to the modern-day culture of the West. Peter's warning is to beware and to stay true to God's word and the apostle's teaching.

In chapter one, Peter begins by reminding believers of the truths he shared in his first letter. Their faith is more precious than gold and has made it through the Refiner's fire. He reminds them that they already have all that they need for life and godliness. The chapter ends with Peter declaring that the revelation of Jesus isn’t a wise tale or fable—he was an eyewitness to Jesus’ majesty, and Jesus is the fulfillment of every Old Testament prophecy of the coming Messiah and His salvation.

  1. If scripture tells us in verse 3 that we have everything we need for life and godliness, how can I apply that truth in my daily life?
  2. According to verse 9, the one who is not growing in their faith is likened to someone who has forgotten their past has been cleansed. How can I live in the assurance of the finished work of the cross?

About this Plan

The Path of Perseverance

In the final hour, many will fall away, but there will be a remnant that finishes the race of faith well. Now, more than ever before, we need a reawakening in our hearts of the true meaning of enduring through trial, suffering, and pain in light of the return of Jesus. "The Path of Perseverance" is a 26-day journey through the books of Philippians, 1st & 2nd Thessalonians, James, 1st & 2nd Peter, and Jude.
