Day Two: Don’t Be Weird, Worship Jesus

Before we jump into Hebrews 1, there are three core texts—Psalm 110, Psalm 2, and 2 Samuel 7:14—that Hebrews is built on. These aren’t just random verses; they’re the backbone of the whole sermon, driving home the message: Don’t leave Jesus.

Let’s kick things off with Psalm 110. It says, “The Lord says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’” This Psalm isn’t poetic fluff—it’s prophetic, pointing straight to Jesus. He’s the one who’s inheriting everything, ruling with ultimate authority, and serving as our eternal priest in the order of Melchizedek. The author of Hebrews leans on this Psalm to show Jesus—that He’s the King, the Creator, and the one holding everything together by His powerful word.

Now, check out Hebrews 1:1-6. The preacher here makes it clear: in the past, God spoke through prophets. But now He’s spoken to us through His Son, Jesus. And Jesus is not just another prophet—He’s the radiance of God’s glory, the exact imprint of His nature, and the one who sustains the universe. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. In other words, Jesus isn’t just above the angels—He’s in a league of His own.

So here’s the deal: God’s always been speaking, and He’s still speaking today. In the Old Testament, He spoke through prophets like Moses, who had those epic face-to-face encounters with Him. But now, through Jesus, God’s communication is clearer and more powerful than ever. Jesus is the exact expression of God’s character, the perfect image stamped onto the “soft metal” of humanity. He is Emmanuel, God with us, showing us how to live in true relationship with the Father.

So, what’s the takeaway? Stop looking back to lesser things—whether it’s the law, angels, the temple, or anything else (that’s what these believers were doing, btw). Jesus is greater. He’s the King who brings about God’s righteousness and justice, and He’s the one who’s going to renew everything. And the angels? They’re servants. Paul concludes this section saying “the angels aren't Jesus.” Calm down. Don't be weird. Worship Jesus; not angels, not little naked babies with the little harp. So, keep your focus on Jesus, the author, and finisher of your faith. Worship Him—not anything or anyone else.
