Your Brain on Porn – Break Free From a Lust and Porn AddictionSample
Day 7: E = Escape the Situation (Flee Temptation)
It’s human nature to flirt with temptation, test the limits, and see how close we can get to the edge without falling.
But when it comes to sexual sin, the Bible is clear: don’t get close—FLEE.
In 1 Corinthians 6:18, we’re told to "flee from sexual immorality." That means escaping it at all costs.
One of the most effective ways to flee the temptation of pornography or other sexual sins is to simply leave isolation. Flee.
Most of the time, porn is watched alone. But acting out in a public place or when friends surround you is next to impossible.
Escaping can be as simple as leaving your room, going outside, meeting up with others, exercising, or going to a public place. Breaking isolation diffuses the temptation.
To get good at fleeing, you need to understand your triggers.
What situations or emotions typically lead you to want to watch porn or to act out sexually? What time of day are you most tempted? Are specific shows, social media platforms, or emotional states triggering you?
Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:29 are intense:
If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out.
While this isn’t literal, it speaks to the need to take radical steps related to lust. Fleeing temptation almost always includes locking up your phone, deleting apps, cutting out certain shows, and setting up stronger filters. Gouging out your eye means cutting off access, so when access appears, you must flee isolation.
Today’s Action:
Meditate on 1 Corinthians 6:18, Matthew 5:29, Hebrews 5:14:
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18)
“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body.” (Matthew 5:29)
"But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil." (Hebrews 5:14)
Reflection Questions:
- What specific triggers lead you to temptation, and how can you remove or avoid them?
- How does fleeing temptation differ from just resisting it?
- What radical steps can you take today to ensure you’re fleeing instead of flirting with temptation?
- How can practicing BRACE 'constantly' help train your brain and renew your mind? What is your plan for constant practice?
