Spiritual Warfare

DAY 1 OF 7

Spiritual Warfare? Seriously?

Sometimes, we tend to think that only certain Christian denominations believe in spiritual warfare.

I remember meeting a Bible scholar who thought this way. He didn’t really want to study what the Bible says on this topic because he found it too weird and uncomfortable. He decided to study the topic anyway, and what he found surprised him.

It surprised me, too.

He discovered that spiritual warfare is not just the teaching of certain denominations; it’s the teaching of Scripture.

He discovered the reality of angels and demons and that they play a significant role in human events.

He discovered that spiritual beings are everywhere in the Bible, and whether we know it or not, they’re part of our world, too.

I had some trouble falling asleep that night after hearing him teach.

We need to understand what the Bible teaches about angels, demons, and the spiritual battle going on around us. Understanding these realities isn’t meant to scare us; it’s meant to prepare us for what’s really happening and to deepen our trust in God.

This week, we’re going to look at what the Bible teaches about spiritual warfare. You may be surprised. But I hope the Bible’s teaching prepares and encourages us as men as we face the reality of spiritual warfare in our lives.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for what Scripture teaches us about the unseen realm. Help us to understand this world and then to trust You. Amen.

Reflection: What do you think about the topic of spiritual warfare?
