Lessons From a Mother's Heart Sample

I feel like my children are the most beautiful children in the entire world. How many moms think this about their kids? I'd say it would be fair to say most of them. But we can't all have the most beautiful children in the world, right? So, God must give us this filter to look through.

I remember my little girl's first day of school. She was so beautiful. She put on a new dress, and I did her hair. We took many pictures of her with her backpack and as she walked into school for the first time.

When I picked her up, she didn't quite look the same. Her hair had fallen out of the updo I'd done. She'd ripped her new dress, and she was a mess. Do you think that I saw her as any less beautiful? No, because she's my precious child, no matter how she looks.

God feels that way about His children, too. Sometimes, our lives are a mess. Sometimes, we start off well and end up with dirt all over our faces. But I took my daughter inside, and I gently wiped her clean. God wants to do the same for you.

God sees beauty from the inside. He sees potential. He sees what we cannot see in ourselves. There was a woman in the Bible—her name was Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute. She had made a mess out of her life, but God loved her, and He knew her value. It didn't matter what she looked like on the outside. God cleaned her up and showed her her worth. She went on to become the mother of Boaz, who was the father of Obed, who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of David—King David. And through King David, we have the lineage to Jesus Christ, right?

So, God used a prostitute. God took a woman whose body was used. God took a woman who was abused, a woman who was called dirty, and through her, He gave us the bloodline to Jesus Christ. God did not see Rahab the way that we would have seen her. He wiped her clean and called her beautiful.

1 Peter 3:3-4 says, "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourself instead with the beauty that comes from within." This verse shows us how God views beauty. It's what's on the inside that matters.

And what's on the inside? Well, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ comes to live inside you. King David tells us of God's beauty in Psalm 27. He loved to "gaze on the beauty of the Lord." If God is beautiful, and you've accepted Jesus Christ, and God came to live inside of you, that means you are beautiful!

Have you ever noticed how new or expectant mothers have this glow about them? Everyone can see it. As believers, we should radiate that beauty as well, and this can be done by recognizing where our beauty comes from.

I love Psalm 139:14, which says, "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
