The Obsession With Me, Myself & ISample
What does God say about Self-Centeredness? Do nothing out of selfish ambition and vain deceit.
Making everything about what you think and how you feel is the quickest way to sabotage relationships. This is because selfishness and self-centered thinking is the primary cause of conflicts, disagreements and dissension.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, the world does not revolve around you. Scripture is very explicit about emphasizing the importance of selflessness and the greatest example it gives us revolves around Christ Himself.
In truth, Jesus loved us so much that He laid down his life for each and every one of us. But there’s more to the verse. Since Christ loved us so much to sacrifice His own life so we could be saved, we should also be willing to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
While this probably won't look like being tortured and crucified on a rugged cross, we are called to love others: to feed the hungry, care for those less fortunate, visit the sick and shut-in and the list goes on...
Obviously, we cannot do this if we are only thinking about ourselves.
About this Plan
When we lack meaningful relationships with others, we tend to rely on our inner thoughts for assurance and affirmation. While this inner voice can sometimes be helpful, if we have no other voice of reason to rely on, it can drive us to make poor decisions. This 3-day plan reminds us to focus on Christ to avoid becoming overly fixated with ourselves.
