A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday DevotionalsSample
God’s voice doesn’t change as God calls Samuel in this scripture. God keeps calling, and Samuel keeps responding.
The phrase ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.’ But humans are not machines. We are not static. We change and respond to situations that repeat themselves in subtly different ways. We adjust and adapt.
Sometimes, God needs to call again and again and again in order for us to hear!
In this scripture, God calls Samuel three times before Eli, his master, recognises that the boy is hearing God. The fourth time God calls, God says Samuel’s name twice: ‘Samuel! Samuel!’
Think about that for a second. God standing where you are one, two, three, four times—calling your name. But God needs you to recognise the author before you truly bear the next part of the plan to understand God’s authority. Who is your Eli to help your eyes open?
Prayer: God, help me see where you’re calling me to and who you’re calling through. Where there is misery, I submit myself to you for joy. Where there is disquiet or contempt, I submit these for your peace.
Action: Pick a piece of paper or a book and write down what you remember God telling you over the years.
