A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday DevotionalsSample
The following extract is from ‘holy wolverine’ by Aux. Lt. Rosy Keane, a spoken word:
Come
alive
By the Holy Spirit
Grasp that Power and
Breathe.
Your promise is a crazy,
tenuous, thing
Like a cobweb
Floating,
It seems,
It’s whispering
Transparent
And yet it’s
The rumblings of the mountain ranges
I love you,
You stranger,
And you are no stranger to me
How can a father give birth?
How can a tomb give life?
How can a death be a living hope?
We are made of the same stuff you and I
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Yes but also
Heavenly to heavenly
Christ’s birth in us
Holy Spirit DNA
Reworking the very bones within us
We are Wolverine with holy
Adamantium
But instead of claws
It’s grace
Instead of fangs
It’s life
Instead of death
or threats
It’s the promise of
hope
A life beyond the grave
And a resurrection because
The lifeboat is within us
The plane crashes –
Your life jacket isn’t under your seat – It’s under your skin
Christ, the one whom we find life in
Holy Spirit, whom we find our breath in
Father, whom we find our hope in
So as your dark tomb
grinds
its teeth and groans
As your deathly hallows
and shallow fears roam
Heckling like jackals and raising their hackles
Remind yourself that the
Rocks cry out
And the stone rolled away
And it too
must sing praises
That Christ doesn’t just bind up bruises and grazes
And cuts and scrapes
But he is the one through whom
The Holy Spirit raises
The dead
The dead
The DEAD
To life.
Prayer: How might we please you, Lord? To love mercy and act justly and walk humbly with you. Holy Spirit, find me here, in my right now, today.
Action: Spend time in silence, seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit. Look up the seven sacred pathways and see which ones are helpful for encountering God and receiving the gift of the Spirit in your life. Keep praying with other believers and seeking an experience of the Holy Spirit’s love for you and your life today.
