Quit Porn, Live FreeSample
Step 10: Help others, be a disciple
Jesus’ final words to his disciples were, ‘Go and make disciples…’ (read more in Matthew 28:18-20), so it is our role to pass on the message of Jesus, to share it and to live it. Every year at DTI, we hear hundreds of stories of young people giving their lives to Jesus and finding freedom. Jesus came to bring freedom. Check out His words in Luke 4:18-19, ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’
Every year we read these stories - stories of freedom - and often it’s from a pornography addiction. We want to celebrate that this can and, in Christ, will be your reality.
Check out these three stories all written by young people…
I came into DTI sinful and shameful. I promised myself no one would ever know of the sin I had continued to choose over God. No one knew. I had laid this at Jesus' feet time and time again but kept picking it back up again. Until, after Elle Mumford's talk I received prayer for freedom. One of the equip team prayed and I confessed my sins to God out loud. I was afraid and scared of what the others around me would think - but God forgave me and that's all that matters. When I opened my eyes my youth group pulled me into a hug and I was overwhelmed by the love from Jesus as well as my Christ-centered friends. Thank you, Lord, for freedom! My friend and I received prayer for sharing our faith. Along with many others, we felt that we would change lives together. We are excited to see how the Lord uses us.
I've received so much prayer and wisdom these past days, but most importantly I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit, in which he broke the chains of a pornography addiction, and anointed me as a leader. I cried for the first time in five years!
For the majority of my life, I have struggled with lust. I felt helpless and ashamed as I knew what I was doing was wrong. I felt guilty. I would go to God countless times and ask him to forgive me, knowing I would do it again. However, on Tuesday, I told the Lord that if he gave me a sign I would tell someone. That day they happened to preach about weaknesses. I felt the Holy Spirit and went to the front and cried. I told my leader and felt the Lord say, “My daughter, I have forgiven you.” I truly am free.
Wow! We love hearing these stories! They are stories of hope, faith, and freedom. This is possible, so never lose hope.
We finally want to say, that even if engaging with pornography is something you still struggle with, do not do this journey alone. Remember day 5 - be accountable! Get help from others, confess sin to trusted friends and leaders, repent, and keep going. Then find some other people you can help. The journey is too long to go alone and remember, nothing is impossible with God!
Question: Who could you come alongside in this journey as you grow in your freedom?

About this Plan
Hey! Welcome to the start of this powerful journey towards freedom, where we will look at how we can take 10 steps over the next 10 days towards freedom from whatever your struggle with pornography is. We want to celebrate the fact that you are taking these steps away from pornography and into the life that God is calling you to. We would also encourage you to do this devotional with some friends or your youth leader as we know this will help you on the journey.
