Healing the Heart: A Journey to Emotional RestorationSample

Healing the Heart: A Journey to Emotional Restoration

DAY 6 OF 7

Confronting Negative Emotions

Comforting Verse

James 3:13–17 tells us that if you are wise and understanding, show it by your good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Self-Reflection

What negative emotions do I often struggle with, such as bitterness, jealousy, or fear?

Who are the people I often have negative feelings towards?

How have these negative emotions influenced my thoughts about God, others, or myself?

Have the devil’s accusations affected or divided any of my relationships?

Steps Towards Healing and Growth

List the people you’re angry with and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any accusations the devil has made against them.

Commit to dealing with toxic emotions daily to prevent the devil from getting a foothold.

Examine your thoughts carefully. Don’t assume all thoughts come from your own mind. The Bible is the best standard for evaluating our thoughts. Reject any thought that doesn’t align with the Bible.

Affirmation of Faith

I confess that my negative emotions can give the devil an opportunity if I don’t handle them properly. I have authority over the devil and I don’t need to fear him. But I must respect what he can do if I leave a door open for him. So, I decide now to guard my emotions carefully. I will get rid of any negative emotions from my past and the messages the devil planted in them. From now on, I will deal with toxic emotions daily to keep my heart healed, healthy, and safe from the devil’s attacks.

Prayer for Healing

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the negative emotions I’ve kept in my heart and hidden from You. I’m sorry for the thoughts and feelings that have caused division in my relationships. I repent and submit to You, and I’ll do whatever is necessary to make things right. Holy Spirit, You are the Spirit of Truth and You know everything within me. I ask You to reveal every wrong feeling and thought within me that needs to be dealt with. In this process, I pray for You to heal my heart and every relationship in my life that the devil has damaged. I also pray for You to help me learn new habits of dealing with my emotions properly and help me break old habits. Devil, I take authority over you in Jesus’ Name. I take authority over every thought and feeling you’ve incited within me. I establish God’s Word as the standard of my life and my thoughts. Every thought that doesn’t align with that standard will be rejected. I cast you out of my mind and emotions in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
