The Generous Family: Living With Open Hands and Hearts

DAY 2 OF 5

As a Generous Family, your ability to give and share is a tremendous asset. But sometimes, you might struggle with a challenging thought: "We don't have enough to give." Today, we'll explore this limiting belief and how we can overcome it to create even stronger, more impactful family generosity.

Have you ever felt hesitant to give because you weren't sure if you had enough? Like you need to secure your own needs before helping others? Even the most generous families sometimes grapple with these thoughts. But remember, God has something powerful to say about that!

This belief that we don't have enough to give often stems from a scarcity mindset and a lack of trust in God's provision. But let's look at what Scripture says about God's abundance:

2 Corinthians 9:8 reminds us, "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." This verse encourages us to trust in God's abundant provision, enabling us to give generously.

Luke 6:38 further emphasizes this point: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Shifting our perspective, we can see that having "not enough" isn't a barrier to generosity—it's an opportunity to trust God more and experience His provision in amazing ways. Embracing generosity doesn't mean depleting your resources. Instead, it's about finding a balance between wise stewardship and trusting God's promise to provide.

Consider taking some practical steps:

  • Practice giving in small ways regularly, trusting God to meet your needs
  • Look for non-financial ways to be generous with your time, skills, or encouragement
  • Support each other in acts of generosity, celebrating both big and small contributions
  • Regularly remind yourselves of times when God has provided abundantly in the past

Questions for Reflection:

  1. How has the belief that we don't have enough to give affected our family's generosity?
  2. In what areas of our lives can we practice giving more, trusting God to provide?
  3. How can we support and encourage each other in acts of generosity?
  4. How might embracing a mindset of abundance open our family to new opportunities for giving and deeper faith?
