Hey Friend!
As we continue our process of breaking free from money stress, let's consider what Paul said about contentment...
Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-13, "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
But here is the thing:
Contentment doesn't mean we never seek to improve our situation.
Rather, it's about finding peace regardless of our circumstances.
And this mindset can significantly reduce money stress.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 echoes this principle: "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that."
Proverbs 30:8-9 offers a balanced perspective: "Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal and so dishonor the name of my God."
Today, let’s practice gratitude as a path to contentment.
Start by listing five things you're thankful for, focusing on non-material blessings.
Next, examine your spending habits. Are there areas where discontentment might be driving unnecessary expenses? Consider how you could simplify in these areas.
And remember that contentment is a learned skill.
So, let’s ask the Lord to help as we seek to cultivate this mindset!
