Maverick for ChristSample
David The Brave
Ahh, Kind David! The bravery. The leadership. The wild look he had in his eyes! To be considered a maverick, you must possess qualities that make you stand out and away from the crowd. David has many moments recorded in the bible showcasing his boldness. It all started with the Lord hand-picking him to shepherd His people as a youth. David had only known how to shepherd his father’s flock, but the Lord had bigger plans for him.
David enters the picture during the life of the prophet Samuel and the reign of the first Israeli King, Saul. After the Lord tells Samuel that Saul must be replaced as King, we are introduced to David as a young man. David was already different from his brothers in that he was the youngest son and the last his father Jesse would imagine to be chosen for anything special.
David would go on to defeat Goliath, the Philistine giant, whom no other men could defeat, mentally or physically. David had no fear because he knew the Lord was with him. After hearing of the giant taunting the men of Israel, David decided to take matters into his own hands. With bravery, faith, and the help of the Holy Spirit, David took down the giant with one smooth stone and a sling. Struck in the middle of his forehead, the giant was defeated without a fight.
Thank you heavenly Father for David’s courage and unwavering faith. If we could only have a fraction of David’s faith, we could move mountains. David would go on to do many more brave things throughout the bible. He won many battles for the Lord. God used David to fulfill His will for the Israeli people. Because of David’s willingness to be different, the Lord was able to use him for good. Of course, God is always on His mighty throne and His will shall always be done. “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37).” Are you brave enough to be a vessel for God’s spiritual and earthly battles?

About this Plan
There are growing, ungodly opinions of how our churches and Christian communities should conduct themselves. There’s a lot of misdirection. Young adults give the impression that they are unsure of what is morally correct. Many fellow Christians wish to take the easy road by staying quiet; regardless of their loudly protesting and discerning thoughts. The world desperately needs Christian mavericks to lead the way, without fear, and with sound advice. This devotional is written to encourage Christians to be Mavericks for Christ and to stand for what is right without fear of having an unpopular opinion.
