How to Be a Modern MonkSample
Day 6 — Practicing Faith
Our world is undeniably divided, often by secular and sacred worldviews. In these tumultuous times, living by faith becomes not just a religious exercise but a vital lifeline. This faith isn’t just about believing in God’s existence but about trusting Him daily in every aspect of our lives.
Romans 12 reminds us that everyone has been given a measure of faith. The challenge isn’t acquiring faith but directing it properly. Doubt isn’t the absence of faith but rather misplaced faith. Our task is to refocus our faith on God, the ultimate source of wisdom and strength.
Essentially, faith isn’t just for Sunday mornings or crises. Trusting God and seeking His guidance in every area of our lives is a daily lifestyle. As Mark 11:22-24 teaches, we will see results when we pray with faith, believing we have already received it.
Living by faith doesn’t mean we ignore reality or shirk our responsibilities. Instead, it means we approach life’s challenges with a different perspective. We trust in the Lord with all our heart, not leaning on our understanding, but acknowledging Him in all our ways, knowing He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Being a “modern monk” is a call to excellence—not just in our careers or personal achievements, but in our spiritual lives. It’s about cultivating a deep, abiding faith that informs every aspect of our existence. It’s about discovering our soul’s deepest desires through communion with God and living out those desires with confidence and trust.
Whether facing personal challenges, professional decisions, or global crises, you can live by faith. You can tap into the power of prayer, seek God’s wisdom, and trust in His promises. In doing so, you can navigate your current circumstances more effectively and experience a depth of peace and purpose that transcends your external situations.
Ultimately, living by faith isn’t about escaping reality—it’s about engaging with it more fully, armed with the confidence that comes from knowing we’re not alone. It’s about facing each day with the assurance that, no matter what comes our way, we have a direct line to the Creator of the universe, who is ready and willing to guide us, strengthen us, and work through us to make a difference in our world.

About this Plan
In our modern world, we’ve removed many ancient practices that build robust human beings. Is there a better way to live? A practice that could lead us to wholeness? When we think about monks, we may imagine shaved heads, robes behind cloistered walls, and individuals living their monk life, out of sync with our modern-day lives and practices. Jude Fouquier shows how their practices can affect our lives in this reading plan.
