Day 5- The Fire Inside My Veins
Discover: The Psalms are full of passages that evoke a deep passion within the authors, a zeal like a fire ready within to worship God and to live a life on fire for Him. Psalm 39 is just one place that specifically references a burning passion for God amid people trying to stamp out his zeal. Jeremiah describes God’s word as a fire within him—so powerful that he couldn’t contain it even if he tried. This fire is a symbol of passion, energy, and purpose that comes from God’s presence in our lives. The world will try to stamp out this from you, but we must continue to stoke the flame in your heart. We can do this through the spiritual discipline of worship, which encourages intimate worship for God out of an overflow of excitement for who He is and what He has done.
Learn: My favorite lyric of “King of My Heart”, the lyric “The Fire inside my veins”, reflects the idea that God’s presence is like a fire that fuels our passion and drives us to live out our faith. Just as fire is essential for warmth and energy, God’s Spirit within us ignites our hearts and gives us the zeal to pursue His purposes, and a zeal to worship Him in spirit and truth. This discipline enables us to keep this fire burning, as it continually draws us into the presence of God, where our passion and zeal are renewed. Worshiping God as the “Fire inside my veins” means allowing His presence to inspire and energize everything we do. It’s about being so filled with His Spirit that our actions, words, and choices are driven by a deep passion for Him. This kind of worship is not just about singing songs or attending church; it’s about living with a sense of purpose that comes from knowing God and being led by His Spirit. Living with this discipline will help us understand that God is worthy of our worship, as He gives us our purpose in life.
Apply: Are you passionate about what God has done in your life, does it still move you to worship knowing the sacrifice and miracle of Jesus’ death and resurrection? Today, think about what it means to have God’s fire burning inside of you. How does this influence the way you live your life? Consider asking God to reignite your passion for Him and for the things He cares about. Commit to let His fire guide your actions and decisions, and to live with the kind of passion that comes from a heart fully devoted to Him. Through regular worship, we allow God’s presence to continually fill and fuel us, ensuring that the fire within never burns out. The spiritual discipline of worship reinforces the need to make Jesus the center of our lives and act upon that truth.
Worshiping Jesus should be a place of passion and purpose.
· How should a passion for God influence your daily life and decisions?
· Have there been times when you felt like the fire inside you for Christ was dim? What helped you reignite it?
· How can you make sure that your passion for Christ stays strong and doesn’t burn out?
· In what ways can worship keep the fire of God’s Spirit burning brightly in your life?
