Offended in the Marketplace: 4 Days to Becoming an Unoffendable Marketplace MinisterSample
Giving No Cause for Offense
What does it mean to give no cause for offense?
It’s easy to recognize when we’ve been offended, but we can’t always tell when we’ve offended others. The Scripture of focus for today, 2 Corinthians 6:1–3, seems to state that we have a responsibility to be aware of how we might offend others and to do our best to address the issue.
Sometimes it seems as if we Christians are okay with offending anyone who does not agree with our thoughts and ideas about the Bible. This mindset won’t bring anyone closer to Christ. As we don’t want to be offended, we should not look to offend other people. Every interaction we have with others is an opportunity to allow them to see God’s nature and seek him in a deeper way. Committing ourselves to giving no cause to offense will help them see the God in us to have an accurate view of him.
Grace also plays a part in this. Extending grace to others will help others extend grace to us. It can be a challenge, but let’s extend grace while living in a way that allows others to see Christ. Gentleness, grace, authenticity, and humility go a long way.
