The Kid: An Advent Devotional for Middle SchoolersSample
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT BELOW
Have you ever heard the name “Immanuel”? It’s one of the names given to Jesus, and believe it or not, the meaning is important to us today. It means “God with us.” In other words, Jesus Himself is the very picture of God with us. When Jesus came to Earth that first Christmas as a Kid, He came to save us, make things right, and create a way for us to be close to God again. And in all that, He showed us what it’s like to be God with us here on Earth.
If you are wondering what Christmas is about, navigating a season that feels lonely, or simply wondering where God is in all the mess that is our world sometimes, remember Immanuel. Remember that Jesus, both then and now, is God with us.
Today, write“Immanuel” somewhere you’ll see it often. If you’re feeling creative, you can even paint a picture, draw it on your hand, or create a lock screen for your phone. Each time you come across it, let it be your reminder this Christmas that God is with you. That’s what the Kid came to show us!

In this devotional, you’ll discover how Christmas is really about Jesus, the Kid from the middle of nowhere who showed up and changed how we see ourselves, our circumstances, our relationships, and our fears.
