Scrap the Shame: Embracing What God Actually Thinks of You

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: God Can Use Anything for Good

Think of the worst thing you’ve ever done. Ever said. Ever thought. Or maybe what comes to mind is what someone else did against you.

Shame can make us think we’re irredeemable. It can make us feel unworthy and unwanted. But just like we read about yesterday, God’s love is greater than our shame. And not only is His love greater, but so is His power to redeem.

God doesn’t waste anything. He can take everything you ever wanted to toss away, every moment you deemed a failure, every choice you wish you could reverse… and in His hands, what feels like a mess can become a masterpiece.

Take, for example, Moses.

Moses was born an Israelite, but grew up in Egyptian royalty. His people were slaves. One day he “saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.” (Exodus 2:11-12)

Moses committed murder. It was a horrific act and a heinous crime. Moses ran away. He hid in the wilderness for years. Shame filled him.

And yet, God did not give up on Moses. God still had plans for Moses. Moses became one of the most important leaders in the Bible. He was imperfect and sinful, and yet God took all of Moses and redeemed him for Moses’ good and for God’s glory.

God can do the same for you.

You are not irredeemable. God can use anything for good — even you. He can actually take all of your pain, your mistakes, your doubts, and your darkness, and use it for your good and for His glory.

There is hope for your present and your future. God has good in store for you.

About this Plan

Scrap the Shame: Embracing What God Actually Thinks of You

The feeling might be familiar: the flush of embarrassment flooding your body, maybe a pit in your stomach, or your shoulders feeling tense. Every part of you wants to run away or hide. The feeling is called shame, and it’s not from God. So what do we do with shame? What does God actually think of us? And how can we embrace who we truly are? Join Change Conference in this 5-day devotional where we'll learn to scrap the shame and embrace how God sees us and who He's calling us to be.
