Being a radio DJ my voice was quickly recognized among faithful listeners. Over the years, I became a popular public personality. However, I built some personal walls up to protect my heart from sharing all of my personal struggles. I wasn’t a fake but was guarded with letting my “dirty laundry out to dry.” I didn’t understand why.

Sometime later, God showed me it was during those years that I wrongly attached my identity to my vocation. I had let my career define my voice. A lie believed as truth will affect you as if it were true. Our identity can’t come from what we have accomplished, or our career, or what we possess.

Nor can it come from what others think about us. The truest thing about us is what God says about us in

Psalm 139:13-14, You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Now, I’m becoming more open to sharing my struggles through writing my stories. I’m determined to allow God’s Word to fine-tune my identity over what culture says. Believe that you were formed and shaped by God’s hand. He has a plan and purpose for you.

It may not look like you thought it would in the current job you are in but be patient and give yourself grace to trust God for the long game. Since I share God’s message through the stories and devotionals that I write, I can see how God used my radio experience to build and strengthen me.

To reflect His voice is now my life’s mission. I’m sharing the gospel with others and writing life-changing truths that give God glory. Did I understand what God was doing during those difficult years of training? No, but now I can see how He used His Word to guide and direct me towards my future.

He knew from the very beginning what my inner parts were knitted together to do. I understand now that my experiences have shaped my faith and can see how God cultivated my sensitive heart during those years. His workmanship is marvelous in you too! Whether you see it or not, I’m certain that God wants to show you and tell you how wonderfully complex you are.
