Beyond Mountains (S2-E8)

DAY 4 OF 4

Spirit, soul and body

Spirit. Soul. Body.

Body. Soul. Spirit.

What is actually the correct order?

In different cultures and in different times, the emphasis is different.

Sometimes you see one at the top, sometimes the other. And that matters.

In this episode of The Chosen, you'll see a little conversation about what this is about as well.

John says to Simon the Zealot, "The mind and the spirit are more important than a healthy body." Simon responds, "How can you have a healthy mind if you don't have a healthy body?"

Good to think about this, because the balance can easily tip toward one or the other.

In today's verse we look at Jesus. Jesus says, "You have given Me a body," and then He goes on about the sacrifices and that He came to do the will of the Father. Jesus had been given a body by His Father and in that body, on the cross, He made the sacrifice that brought us reconciliation.

Have you ever thought about that? Do you realize how special it is that God's Son was given a body?

Paul also talks about the body. He calls that a temple. A dwelling place of God. God came to dwell in you in the Holy Spirit when you came to believe in Him. Your body - just feel for a moment - is a temple in which God dwells!

We cannot understand or comprehend this, but we may pause to consider it.

God in Jesus became human like us. His body included. And God dwells - through the Holy Spirit - in our bodies.

God with us.

God in us.

Immanuel.

You were bought because Someone, with His body, paid.

"Therefore glorify God in your body."

Take the following questions to think about:

  • What order do spirit, soul and body have in your life?
  • How do you see your body?
  • What does it mean for you to glorify God in your body?

Prayer: "Lord, thank You for becoming human. Thank You for coming so close. Thank You for bearing in Your body all the punishment for my sins and the sins of those around me. Thank You for wanting to dwell in my body. I cannot reach it. Help me to glorify You even in my body. Amen."
