Overwhelmed to OverflowingSample
Team God
READY:
“Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown. So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air. Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.” - 1 Corinthians 9:25-27
SET:
This summer we will have the pleasure of watching the 2024 Summer Olympics. For most of the athletes competing this is the pinnacle moment in their career. The chance to represent your country on the worldwide stage only comes once every four years. For some, this might be the only chance they get. The discipline these athletes put themselves through is years in the making. You don't start training for the Olympics a few months before. Years, even decades, of work go into hopefully qualifying to make an Olympic team. These athletes are in the best physical form of their lives, ready to represent their sport and their country. They are proud to represent their country.
Are you proud to represent your God? Are people able to look at you and see someone who is training every day to be in the best spiritual form of their lives? Are you walking each day representing our faith in the best possible way? Ask yourself these questions and see if your life would be selected to represent God on the world stage.
Paul holds himself to this same standard. He states that he must live a life that once He is done preaching the Word of God, his life does not disqualify what he just preached. We are called to hold ourselves to the highest standard, are you?
GO:
- Where are you weak in your faith? Prayer? Temptation? Envy? Gossip?
- Can you think of someone who is proud to represent God in their life?
- What type of training does it take to be a Christian who is publicly strong in their walk?
WORKOUT:
1 Timothy 4:7-8
Joshua 1:8
OVERTIME:
“Lord, we are honored to be able to represent You here on earth. Push us to train ourselves so we can be honored members of your team and be a good witness for who You are. Let us not fall into old ways but be steadfast in our spiritual disciplines. Amen.”
