Unrushed Living: Embracing Simplicity and Savoring Life's Moments

DAY 12 OF 18

Prayer: Making the First Move

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” JEREMIAH 29:13

In the heat of the moment, sometimes she forgot the order of things. Like the fact that God promised to draw near to her when she first drew near to Him (James 4:8). Or that she would find Him if only she would start seeking. As soon as she remembered, she would look for Him in whatever situation she found herself. And instantly, God would feel closer.

At times when our hearts are busy processing the things going on around us, God isn't always at the top of our mind. He is a gentleman, waiting until we’re ready to give Him attention before He jumps in. Of course, this isn’t always the case. He is a rescuer. When we need saving, He will be there. At times He comes without our asking. But when we find ourselves aching for His comfort, presence, or peace—when wisdom seems elusive—God is just a prayer away. It takes focus. It takes faith. It takes a mindful pause in the middle of the fray to settle our hearts, turn in His direction, and intentionally invite Him into our circumstances. Are you accidentally leaving God out of something today? Would you benefit from having Him closer and more involved? Have you drawn near to Him through the Word and prayer, and have you been seeking Him in the matter? If not, take some time today. Determine what your heart needs from Him, and just ask. Look for promises in Scripture and make room for Him to speak. You won’t regret it.

God,

soften my heart and mind to hear and sense Your Spirit. Prayer is a gift that I often take for granted. I ask that You forgive me for that and shape my mind to be in constant communication with You. I want to learn more about You. I want to go deeper with You. Teach me how to draw near and stay connected to You.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.
