Prayers From the Bible Part 1

DAY 5 OF 7

Let go and let God - Hezekiah's prayer

In 2 Kings 19:15–19, King Hezekiah is overwhelmed by the threats of King Sennacherib of Assyria. It was a sense of impending doom as a king, but he didn’t let it consume him. Instead, he turned to prayer with hope and faith in divine intervention.

Overwhelm is something many of us know. Our challenges are not like Hezekiah’s (I hope!), but the feelings of fear and uncertainty are not so different. Just like Hezekiah, we have a choice of what to do: we can succumb to the fear or turn to God for help. As the saying goes, we can ‘Let go and let God.’

Hezekiah was a pray-er. As a king, it was his go-to solution. It makes me think that if God can help him in his circumstances, how much more can He help us as we face our challenges? Hezekiah didn’t plead his own merits or devise his own strategies. He acknowledged and trusted God’s supremacy and found strength, not in his own abilities, but in believing God would be faithful to His promises. Being challenged by this has been one of the things I’ve found both easy and hard. It’s not difficult to pray, but sometimes it’s difficult to think to pray and trust God will make a way when our struggles are so overwhelming.

However, in surrendering to God, we find peace that transcends understanding. We exchange our worries for the assurance of His presence and provision. No matter the size of our trials, we can rest in the knowledge that God is in control – we can let go and let God.

What’s something you could let go of by giving to God in prayer?

About this Plan

Prayers From the Bible Part 1

If you’ve read the Bible stories of people such as Aaron, Moses, and Hannah, you will know they had seasons of waiting on God and trusting Him. Follow along with this plan to gain insight into how these people, who God chose, prayed! How they kept their eyes on Him and had faith that He would come through as He had promised.
