Speak Life
We live in a world where women tend to tear each other down by competing, gossiping, and judging. But that’s not how we roll as a sisterhood. We encourage. We celebrate. We tell others that they’re beautiful and valuable and that God has a strategic plan for their lives.
Then other women will think, “You’re different. You’re not judging everyone. You’re not gossiping. You let me come as I am, and you love me right where I am.”
Being able to build each other up corporately starts with allowing Jesus to build us up personally. One of the things my husband and I pray over our kids is our church creed: “I am loved by God. I cannot earn it. I cannot lose it. In Christ, I am forgiven and made brand new. I live with passion and purpose. I’m empowered by the Spirit to be the church in the world and to live for the glory of God.”
I urge you to make your own personal creed, to get into the rhythm of preaching God’s truth to yourself. You might say something like: “I have the peace of God in me. The hope of the world lives in my heart. Yes, the storm may be raging outside, but I’m going to speak life. Yes, everything may feel heavy right now, but I’m going to speak life. The situation may seem hopeless, but I’m going to speak life.”
Isaiah 9:1–5 offers a beautiful response for the times we’re living through: “The time of darkness and despair will not go on forever… The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in the land of deep darkness, a light will shine….”
The situation you’re facing today is not going to last forever. You’re going to come out the other side. You might be surrounded by some serious darkness and you’re trying to be a light for your home, your family, and your neighborhood, but Jesus wants to be the light that shines through you.
So instead of competing with one another or arguing about politics or the workplace or how to school our children, let’s commit to encouraging other women in our lives. Speak life today.
God, forgive me for the ways I have cut other women down rather than building them up. Give me grace to speak life to myself and others today. Amen.
