Sex. Within its Heaven-ordained setting and boundaries, it’s a beautiful gift from God to man— a source of joy, and pleasure, and connection. Outside of that context, twisted and distorted by the cruel enemy of both God and man, it’s a source of heartache and devastation. It is that powerful.

In God’s good plans, sex does far more than simply enable us to carry out God’s Genesis 1:28 (ESV) mandate to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” It holds the power to bond a husband and wife together in both body and soul. And that sacred marriage bond is the core of the most important earthly institution: the family. God’s plans for mankind are blessing and happiness. But those good plans depend upon the health of marriages and families.

Is it any wonder then that the enemy of our souls expends so much energy and strategy in undermining marriages?

What we do with the seventh commandment has the power to determine not only your future, but also the future of our entire nation. Adultery is explicitly forbidden by God because it destroys everyone involved. It destroys the individuals; it destroys the family, and it destroys God’s original good plans.

The Bible's position on adultery is very clear. In the New Testament, Paul wrote: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9–10, KJV).

We are in a battle for the soul of this nation. God's cure is His Word. If we, as a people, would live by the seventh commandment, stay sexually pure, and abstain from sin, our nation would turn around overnight.

God has given us ten principles of righteousness. His precepts and statutes are for our good. If we will honor His Word, we and our nation can enjoy the protection, love, and defense of the hand of God. What will you do with the Ten Commandments? How will you respond with your life?
