DAY 3 OF 5

Trust that God's Got This

Our life setbacks may catch us by surprise, but they never surprise God. He knows everything about you—your faults, failures, feelings, frustrations, fears, friends, and future. He knows what your yesterday looked like and what your tomorrow holds. He knows the pain you’ve experienced, the insecurities you wrestle with, the places you want to go, the habits you hope to drop, the thoughts you have at night, the number of times you hit snooze in the morning, and the songs you sing in the shower.

The psalmist wrote, “Before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all” (Psalm 139:4–6 NASB). God possesses complete knowledge of your imperfections, mistakes, emotions, and struggles, as well as what awaits you in the days to come.

God’s omniscience and omnipotence transcend the bounds of time and circumstance. And I’m not just talking about the things that come our way unexpectedly that God has foreknowledge of. I find a lot of peace knowing that even though God knows the mistakes I’ll make down the road, it doesn’t affect His love or His plan for me.

Throughout the Gospels, one of Jesus’ closest friends and followers, Peter, is often remembered as a reckless man with a big mouth. (See Matthew 14:22–33, 16:21–23, and 26:33–35.) Peter’s humanity is so relatable. I resonate with some of his prideful, fearful, and irrational behavior. But what I love about Peter’s life is that despite all his setbacks, God wasn’t caught off guard and still used Peter for His glory. We get a glimpse into this in the book of John when, after a very intimate breakfast on the beach, the resurrected Christ reassured and restored Peter’s calling as a leader of the future church (John 21).

The same is true today. God will equip you for where He has called you. In the meantime, embrace your middle zone by stepping up in obedience and acting on what you’re called to do. You can do hard things not because of your abilities but because you serve a limitless God who multiplies the little we have to offer Him to feed thousands.

Pray:

Lord, thank you that nothing I face will take you by surprise or change your love for me, and that you are faithful to provide for every need today. Amen.

About this Plan

A Crown That Lasts by Demi-Leigh Tebow

You only need to open your phone, look in that doctor’s eyes, have a loved one cut you off, watch a dream collapse, or embark on a lonely cross-country move to feel stranded, starting over, and confused about your identity. I pray that through these devotionals you’ll feel less alone and glimpse who you are, what really matters, and what to do when you're stuck in the messy middle.
