When You Feel Unappreciated

DAY 3 OF 3

A THOUGHT ADJUSTMENT

Chances are, when we feel unappreciated, we’ve forgotten that we are to live by these verses in Colossians 3.

I don’t know about you, but I need to be reminded of that from time to time. I need to remember that I go to my job as an assignment from the Lord, so it doesn’t matter how much people say thank you along the way. Am I pleasing God? Then I’m good.

This will also help keep us from quitting (whether it be a job, a church, a relationship, or whatever). One main reason people leave is because they feel it’s too hard to get along with others. But when we do everything we do as unto the Lord, we won’t quit unless HE says quit.

I hate to tell you this, but sometimes people will mistreat you. If you don’t expect to deal with difficult people in life, you’ll quit midstream. But I would hate to stand before God at the end of my life and tell Him I quit because “they didn’t treat me right!”

Understand that people can be insecure and easily offended. They won’t always act right or appreciate you when they should. I like what one minister says, “When it comes to people, expect nothing, appreciate everything.” Do things the Bible way – pay no attention to a suffered wrong (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

Living to please and obey God is such a peaceful way to live. There’s no pressure to keep everyone happy – only Him. It keeps your heart right; keeps you from focusing on yourself and being offended.

Just think about the situation in which you may have felt unappreciated and make this small adjustment in your thinking: “I’m going to do this as unto the Lord, not to please people.”

You can trust the Lord – He sees everything you do, and He is a rewarder (Hebrews 11:6). He is the one who promotes you (Psalm 75:6). He knows exactly how to work everything together for your good!
