100 Days of Hope

DAY 84 OF 100

Cancer-Free

I remember sitting on the crinkly paper that covered the patient examination table. I had been battling cancer for two and a half years, and it made my heart jump when I thought that this could be the scan. The one that would finally show what I felt in my heart: that I was healed.

After three months of living in the hospital, having surgery after surgery to remove all of my tumors, I was informed a scan had shown that the disease had new growth in other areas. I was right back where I started. I asked my doctor if I could take time to pray and rest before I started my next round of chemo. They allotted me one month of rest. During that time, I prayed that I would be healed.

That month flew by. Again, I found myself seated on the examination table, my doctor clicking down the hall in her heels, making her way toward my room. As she stepped in the doorway, I held my breath. She shook her head. Then a strange thing happened. I felt peace, a kind that passes all understanding.

It was after this that God provided me with a new view on healing, a new perspective on faith. Perhaps it is different than what I originally thought. Faith is the “assurance of things hoped for.” It is not “hoping for things.” It is believing God’s promises have happened whether or not there is evidence of them at the moment.

I may not have seen the clear scans yet, but I have a strong conviction that I will; whether it is in this life or the next, I am cancer-free.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you give us hope to face all trials. Assure us in times of doubt you have good plans for us. When you speak to our hearts, may we trust your word above what the world tells us.
