100 Days of HopeSample
Cultivating His Voice
“Here I am”—three simple words. Abraham, Moses, and Samuel all answered the Lord with these words when He called on them. These are not only words of availability, but also of obedience: From these words, Abraham submitted to sacrificing his son Isaac at the altar, Moses led the rebellion of the Israelite slaves, and Samuel declared the Lord’s judgment on the priestly line in Israel.
Because they were in relationship with the Father, Abraham, Moses, and Samuel could recognize His voice. Because they knew and trusted Him, had disciplined themselves to be obedient and available, they were able to say, “Here I am.”
Unassuming but powerful words: Through such simple words of obedience, the Lord carries out His plans. Cultivate listening to His voice, being ready for His call, so that when the Lord invites you to join Him in bringing about His restoration, you are able to say, “Here I am.”
Prayer: Father, help us to listen to you, to be ready and willing to answer, “Here I am” when you call us out.
