Where We're Going
Throughout Jesus’ ministry journey, He maximized simple moments to transform the way people viewed Him, themselves, and the world around them.
In Luke 7:36-50, Jesus‘ meal with the religious leaders was interrupted by a woman who was unable to contain her love for Him. In the “Food For Thoughts“ Bible study, we‘re going to take a closer look at this surprising story and discover five areas where Jesus wants to change our mindset:
#1) Status (Luke 7:36-37)
#2) Stuff (Luke 7:38)
#3) Sin (Luke 7:39-43)
#4) Self (Luke 7:44-46)
#5) Salvation (Luke 7:47-50)
Prayerfully, this study will help us view life through the lens of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection!
What Does Jesus Want Us To Know About Status?
(Focus Verses: Luke 7:36-37)
1) He Is Above All
Since Simon the Pharisee was a religious leader of the Jewish people, he viewed himself as superior when Jesus joined him for a meal. This sense of self-importance became even more apparent when the woman entered uninvited. However, Simon did not realize that Jesus is the King of Kings and ruler over all (Rev. 17:14). No matter how important or insignificant we may feel, God has chosen us and reigns supreme over us!
2) We Are Equal to All
It can be easy to judge people through the lens of their talents, popularity, or family background, but the Bible clearly teaches that we are all “one in Christ Jesus“ (Gal. 3:28).
3) All Should Worship Him
Our ultimate purpose as God's creation is to worship Him, just as the woman did with her tears and alabaster jar. While the world may judge people based on their successes and failures, we are all created equal, designed to glorify Him!
Big Idea
Even though the world often judges people based on their successes and failures, we’re all equal at the foot of the cross. God reigns over all, and we are designed to worship Him!
Let's Think About This:
Question #1: What is one thing that “jumped out” to you while reading Luke 7:36-37?
Question #2: Which of the three things Jesus wants us to know about “status” (1. He Is Above All; 2. We Are Equal to All; 3. All Should Worship Him) resonated the most with you?
Question #3: Who is someone in your life that you should view differently than you do now? How does God see them?
