Training in Victory

Every good athlete knows that there are two essential components for success: consistency and repetition. Soldiers are in the same boat during their military training; they too train relentlessly every day for months. They learn to shoot at targets so that in real situations, despite anxiety and tension, they can achieve their objectives confidently relying on their reflexes.

"Pray without ceasing" (Luke 18:1), and "give thanks in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5:18) are encouragements overflowing in the Bible. Children of God are also soldiers and athletes, and in the Word of God, we find our ammunition. Offering our praise, devotion, and gratitude to God, day after day, teaches us to develop reflexes for times when doubt, fear, or anger knock at our door.

When the athlete arrives on the day of the competition, the fruits of their training will be evident to all. Although training is essential for both, there is a significant difference between an athlete and a child of God. During their trial, the athlete still concerns themselves with victory, while the heir of Christ has come only to reap it.

Being consistent and never growing weary of our praises and thanksgiving is the guarantee that the Holy Spirit will deliver us from evil when the time comes. It is important, through all kinds of prayers, to develop reflexes so that the Holy Spirit is found active and at work in us and in our hearts, especially at times when we are embarrassed, when our thoughts tend toward sin, or when our hearts grow weary of love.

Above all, Christians are marathoners in the race of life, and, every single day, training is required. We know that on competition days, evil can strike without warning, but Christians can train in victory.
