Worldwide Revival: An 8 Day Devotional with NewsboysSample
DAY EIGHT: HE LIVES
As a band, something we find ourselves desiring from time to time is consistency. Permanence. Something unchanging. In our lives, that desire probably roots from our constantly changing circumstances. We wake up in a new city every day and play a show in a new city every day. Different tours, new album cycles – the list of changing things in our life is a mile long, and it’s something we LOVE, but after so many years it can be a tiring aspect of the job. That desire for permanence is an innate human desire, we think. It may manifest itself in different ways based on your individual circumstances, but the reality is that in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, consistency is a comfort for a lot of people.
The Good News in that desire is that God’s love is consistent, permanent, and unchanging. He fills that need, and He did so by dying on the cross, and resurrecting three days later. Jesus is eternal, and that’s a reality that we can find our hope in. He Lives is a celebration of that truth. A declaration of God’s consistent and unchanging love.
See The Tomb Where He Laid // See The Stone Rolled Away // He Is Risen // He Is Risen
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” - Revelation 22:13
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” - John 1:1-2
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” - Hebrews 13:8
Scripture affirms the eternal nature of Jesus several times throughout the Bible. It’s a fact that remains steadfast and confidently stated. The consistency of Jesus’s love is the ultimate display of his unchanging nature. If we allow it to, it’ll fill our human desire for permanence. His love is unwavering, and His victory over sin and death is everlasting. Because He lives forever, we’re promised eternal life with Him. In challenging times, when we’re faced with stress & heartache, this is the news we should cling to for comfort.
1. How does understanding Jesus as eternal change your perspective on current challenges and uncertainties in your life?
2. In what ways can you live out the truth of Jesus' eternal nature in your daily life and interactions with others?
Walking through our daily lives with appreciation for the eternal nature of God encourages us to live with purpose and integrity, knowing that our actions have eternal significance. Eternity is something to find solace in, and to draw strength from. An unchanging anchor in a world that can often feel turbulent and unpredictable, there is no better beacon of hope in the chaos. By embodying the principles of Jesus’ teachings, and by celebrating the way Jesus took our shame and left it in the grave, we can become similar beacons of hope for those around us, reflecting that eternal nature in our own interactions. In the same way that God loves us, we’re to love others – for eternity.
You Took All Our Shame // Left It In The Grave // We’re Forgiven // We’re Forgiven
