The Driven Family: Building a Legacy of Faith and Perseverance

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Learning from the Biblical Example of Moses

Devotional: The story of Moses is a powerful illustration of what it means to be a Driven Family. Like many Driven Families, Moses was called to a purpose bigger than himself – to lead the Israelites out of slavery and into the Promised Land. He had a clear vision of what God wanted him to do, and he pursued that vision with passion, determination, and unwavering faith.

But Moses' journey also highlights some of the common cautions and limiting beliefs that Driven Families may face. One of the biggest challenges Moses encountered was his own self-doubt and fear of inadequacy. When God first called him to confront Pharaoh, Moses protested, saying, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" (Exodus 3:11). He focused on his own limitations – his lack of eloquence, his stutter, his fear of rejection – rather than trusting in God's power to equip him for the task.

This is a common limiting belief for Driven Families – the idea that we are not good enough, skilled enough, or capable enough to pursue the callings God has placed on our lives. But God's response to Moses is the same response He gives to us: "I will be with you" (Exodus 3:12). When we focus on our own inadequacies, we limit what God can do through us. But when we trust in His power and presence, we open ourselves up to incredible possibilities.

Another caution that Moses' story highlights is the danger of burnout and impatience. As the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, Moses faced constant complaints, challenges, and setbacks. He became so overwhelmed by the burden of leadership that he cried out to God, "I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me" (Numbers 11:14). Moses was on the verge of burnout, and he needed to learn to delegate and share the load with others.

This is a valuable lesson for Driven Families, who often take on too much in their pursuit of their goals. We may feel like we have to do everything ourselves, or that asking for help is a sign of weakness. But just as Moses needed the support of his family, his community, and the elders of Israel, we too need to learn to rely on others and share the burden of leadership.

Finally, Moses' story teaches us the importance of perseverance and faith in the face of adversity. Throughout his journey, Moses encountered countless obstacles and setbacks – from Pharaoh's stubborn refusal to let the Israelites go, to the people's constant grumbling and rebellion in the wilderness. But through it all, Moses remained committed to God's calling and trusted in His faithfulness.

This is the heart of what it means to be a Driven Family – to pursue God's purposes with single-minded focus, even when the road ahead is difficult and uncertain. It means trusting that God's plans are good, even when we can't see the way forward. It means persevering through challenges and setbacks, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.

As Driven Families, we can draw strength and inspiration from Moses' example. We can embrace our God-given callings with passion and determination, while also learning to trust in God's power, to rely on the support of others, and to persevere through adversity. We can reframe our limiting beliefs and self-doubts, knowing that our identity and worth are found in Christ alone.

So let us follow in the footsteps of Moses, as individuals and as families. Let us pursue God's purposes with unwavering faith and commitment, knowing that He will guide us, provide for us, and use us to accomplish great things for His kingdom. Let us be Driven Families, not just in our ambition and achievements, but in our love for God and our desire to serve Him with every part of our lives.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. What limiting beliefs or self-doubts have held you back from fully embracing God's calling on your life? How can you reframe those beliefs in light of God's power and faithfulness?
  2. In what areas of your life do you feel overwhelmed or burdened by the weight of leadership or responsibility? How can you learn to delegate and rely on others, just as Moses did?
  3. What challenges or setbacks have you faced as a family in pursuing God's purposes? How can you persevere through those challenges with faith and trust in God's goodness?
  4. What specific gifts, talents, or resources has God given your family, and how can you use those to serve Him and make a positive impact in the world around you?
